These are the fees in our booking system as at September 2026, at both the Kew and Oakleigh clinics. You book one appointment at a time and you are never signed on to a package unless you ask for one.
Private health insurance
Most funds pay a benefit for exercise physiology under extras cover, so what you pay on the day is the fee less whatever your fund pays back.
What your fund pays depends on two things we cannot see: your level of extras cover, and how much of your annual limit you have left. Your fund can tell you both in a two minute phone call, and it is worth making before your first appointment rather than after it. We accept all health funds.
Medicare rebates
Through your GP, and only for chronic conditions. If you have a condition that has lasted or is expected to last at least six months, your GP can refer you under a GP chronic condition management plan, which covers a limited number of allied health services per calendar year across all providers, not per provider.
There is a second, separate referral for group services, which is the one the diabetes exercise program uses.
Two things people are usually surprised by. The rebate is a part payment and not the whole fee, so there is a gap. And your GP decides whether you are eligible and how many sessions you get, not us. The Medicare rebate article explains the item numbers if you want the detail.
WorkCover, TAC and DVA
We are approved providers for WorkCover, TAC and DVA.
- WorkCover in Victoria. Your claim needs to be accepted and your treatment approved before we can bill WorkSafe. Bring your claim number and your case manager's details. How exercise physiology works under Victorian WorkCover
- TAC. Same shape: claim number and approval, and we bill TAC directly.
- DVA. A referral from your GP under a DVA arrangement, and there is nothing to pay on the day.
NDIS
Self-managed and plan-managed plans, at the Kew and Oakleigh clinics. We cannot claim for agency-managed plans. Full detail on the NDIS exercise physiology page.
What to bring
- Your referral, if you have one. You do not need one for a private appointment.
- Your private health card, if you are claiming on the day.
- Your claim number and case manager details, for WorkCover, TAC or DVA.
- Your plan manager's details, for a plan-managed NDIS plan.
- Clothes you can move in, and the shoes you actually train or walk in.

How much does an exercise physiologist cost in Melbourne?
At AlignHC, $156.55 for a 45 minute first appointment and $135.00 for a 30 minute follow-up. Rebates through Medicare, private health extras, WorkCover, TAC, DVA or NDIS reduce what you pay.
Is exercise physiology covered by Medicare?
Partly, and only with a GP referral under a GP chronic condition management plan for a condition lasting six months or more. The rebate is a part payment, so there is a gap.
Do all health funds cover exercise physiology?
